Game Night: Winter in Minneapolis

Winter in Minneapolis.

Game night! There are few things more fun during wintertime than spending a cozy night in with dear friends, a few drinks, and ridiculous (adult) board games. Maybe it doesn’t really sound that fun, but let me assure all of you naysayers:

It is.

We even tried to revive a favorite summer snack invention: Cheez-It cheese sandwiches. Yep, it continues to sound like a good idea at first.

I realize this post is a little Miles-heavy. He’s the dog, and oh-so-hard-to-resist when you’re carrying a camera around. I omitted the frames where he was humping his toys (bad dog).

I’m grateful to have so many wonderful people in my life that want to share a laugh and beer on a cold night. That is why I don’t mind contributing this one post to shameless advertising for others.

Cheers.

A resolution

A resolution.
Inspiration finds its way to me in myriad ways, especially in my business. A photograph, just one single photograph, has the power to elicit feelings and emotions which are sometimes impossible to verbalize.
Like falling in love.
One of my prime photographic muses had a lot to say recently on this very topic.
Love.
And how in our business, it’s damn easy to forget why you’re doing what you’re doing.
But that intangible swirl of emotion that makes a good wedding amazing, that wispy breeze charged with warmth and desire that grazes the cheek of each person in the room, that is what breathes the life into a wedding photograph.
That is what I’m after.
So this year I resolve to keep this in mind and not lose sight of its importance in my work.
Dresses, jewelry, cakes and shoes may contribute elegance and splendor to a wedding day, and many couples truly deserve recognition for their outstanding planning and unrivaled decor.
But that thing, that impossible-to-pin-down-special-thing, is all that truly matters.
So, love, I resolve to give you more attention.
If you’re reading this and planning your wedding, and the stress is mounting, don’t forget what’s really important. Because at the end of the day, your wedding day, it always trumps the rest.

Veronica

This beautiful newborn baby girl was a delight to photograph. There’s something awe-inspiring about the perfection of little bundles like this, something that not even a camera can completely capture.

Megan + Steve

A perfect date to tie the knot: eleven, eleven, eleven.

Megan and Steve were such a delightful couple to spend the day with. They both added a lot of creative ideas to their wedding from guitar picks and live music to train track portraits.

This couple’s love of music and each other really shined on a lovely sunny day in November.

Don’t miss the music (click the arrow) with this one.

Kristin

This classy, winter portrait session with the lovely Kristin was so perfect. Great light, great weather, and a touch of holiday cheer in the air. St. Anthony Main never fails to serve as an amazing portrait location here in fabulous downtown Minneapolis.

Quinlan Family

A few weeks ago, I spent the afternoon out near Minnehah Falls Park with the Quinlans and some excellent scenery. Lisa, of Lisa Quinlan Photography, asked if I’d take some photos of the whole family in preparation for Christmas cards. The many abandoned buildings pictured here have since been demolished in order to extend the reach of the public park, but we managed to get a family photo session in just a couple of days before crews started bulldozing.

Kieran and Mackenna are four and two-years old and filled with incredible, vibrant energy so distinct in children. It’s been great fun to watch how they’ve grown since the last time I saw the pair.
