Every year a peckish gaggle of Heavy Table staffers gather at the Minnesota State Fair on opening morning. They are armed with intricate maps and fancy food words ready to tackle the job of reviewing new State Fair bites. This year’s expedition included a uniform of lime green t-shirts stamped with a new food Honor Roll, essentially a checklist to be sure we stayed on track. There were chop dogs, cocoa cheese bites, and a deep fried Monte Cristo for good measure.
We also managed to find gnome homes, hula hoops, and Al Franken, too. Somewhere in this collection you’ll find my favorite sequence that documents what happens when something doesn’t taste right.
If you haven’t made it to the great Minnesota get together yet, get going.
