When Meaghan and Cole contacted me about shooting their engagement photos they wondered if it was okay to bring their dogs along. I live with a cutie pie little dog and two cats, so I completely welcome and understand the desire to include pets as part of the family. We set the date to meet at Hidden Falls Park in St. Paul and ended up with the most fantastic golden hour I’ve photographed in a long time.
This collection is a bitter sweet one for Meaghan and Cole. On the happy side, I recently shot their elegant St. Paul wedding and everything went perfectly. They had their favorite shots from this collection in a book made for the wedding guests and they both looked back on the session fondly. Unfortunately, a few days after their engagement photos one of their dogs, Moo (the little one), passed away. It was sudden and unexpected. Meaghan and Cole both thanked me for taking great shots of Moo and expressed so much gratitude. They were so glad they had set up the shoot.
This made me reflect on photography and life events. Weddings are special, but hiring a photographer to capture life doesn’t necessarily need to coincide with a grand event. It can be just because you’d like beautiful photos of the things that are important in your life. I decided to book an anniversary session with my husband because we don’t really have any pro photos together and I’m really looking forward to it. If you have considered booking a session but haven’t, maybe you should. Not because something tragic might happen, but because it’s really nice to have photos of those you love.
